Q: Who is VerticalCloud and why was AppSingular created?
A: VerticalCloud is the company behind the AppSingular product. We have been around unofficially since the early 2000s, but recently incorporated in 2011 and established the company name of "VerticalCloud" to highlight our deep expertise in cloud-based solutions for different vertical marketing, including real estate and property management.
AppSingular was created by the founders of Vertical Online Property Manager, another VerticalCloud product. The founders are do-it-yourself landlords that own rental properties in college towns. Hearing students complain about continually having to fill out rental applications every year, the founders decided to do something about it! AppSingular was created to ease their pain! Allowing them to enter the details into a database once and retrieve it with each apartment they moved into. The spill over affect was that AppSingular tremendously streamlined the process on our end by helping us find suitable tenants with the click of a button. We virtually eliminated the manual paperwork involved with collecting rental applications and running tenant background checks.
Now we’re sharing this simple yet highly effective platform with other real estate agents, landlords, and property management firms across the U.S.
Q: What does it cost to use AppSingular?
A: AppSingular was developed to make lives easier for tenants and landlords. Setting up your profile takes about 5 minutes and is completely free. As renters, you realize that wherever you decide to live – the landlord, property management firm, or real estate agent will often charge you a non-refundable application fee. To maintain the servers and offset our operating costs, AppSingular takes a very small portion of the rental application fee that you pay when applying to a rental property.
As landlords ourselves, we typically charge our tenants a flat $35.00 for the rental application fee. This fee also covers the cost involved in running a background and criminal The cost you pay for submitting a rental application all depends on the real estate agent, landlord, or property management firm – they set the price, we don’t. One thing we can promise you though – your data is safe with us and will always be available.
Q: How can I be sure that my data is secure with AppSingular?
A: We take security very seriously with AppSingular and all other VerticalCloud products. We offer bank-level security and support 256-bit encryption with all web browsers. We are DigiCert Certified Secure. Here are the reasons you can rest assured that your data is safe & secure with AppSingular:
- Our data center has redundant power generators and proven upstream providers (e.g.; AT&T, Time Warner Telecom, Global Crossing).
- Everything is fully redundant -- what does this mean? It means that servers in our data center that run AppSingular are fed power through an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) which prevents power surges or local brown outs from affecting server performance.
- The software sitting behind AppSingular is ran from a state-of-the-art network operations center. Redundant network cores are in all of our data centers. What this means for you is that if a router or high-level network appliance goes down for any reason at all, you won't lose access to AppSingular!
- Best of all, the data center in which AppSingular resides is backed by a prestigious industry certifications known as SAS 70 Type II. By achieving this standard, you can rest assured that your data is safe, secure, and readily available 24/7/365!
Q: How do I submit a rental application with AppSingular?
A: As a new tenant, you will first need to create an account with us. Click the "New User" link above and simply follow the prompts – you’ll be in our system within 5 minutes. All the information you provide is then converted into the format your landlord, property management firm, or real estate agent requested. We convert the application information to a PDF and send it off immediately to your real estate agent.
AppSingular sends an SMS text to your real estate agent, notifying them that they have a new rental application to pick up from us (electronically of course!). You are kept in the loop of status changes to your application through email and SMS text alerts – it can’t get any easier than that!
Q: How do I update my profile information?
A: Very easy. Logon to AppSingular and click your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Click "Profile Settings" and change your information.
Q: I forgot my password to AppSingular – what should I do?
A: No worries! Click "Forget Password", enter your email address, and we’ll email you a link to reset it.
Q: Can I change my password?
A: Absolutely. Logon to AppSingular and click your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Click "Profile Settings" and then click "Change Password".
Q: I used AppSingular last year to apply for an apartment, can I submit an application for another property?
A: Of course you can! That is exactly the reason why AppSingular was created. Simply logon and click "Send AppSingular" – your application will be routed accordingly.
Q: Another landlord asked me to fill out a rental application – can I use AppSingular to apply?
A: Sure you can! AppSingular enables you to send rental applications to any landlord, agent, or property management firm.
